Collection
The collection of the Kunst Museum Winterthur is characterised by the former industrial and commercial metropolis of Winterthur and the patronage of numerous collectors. High-quality groups of works provide a meaningful tour through the art of past eras: Dutch Old Masters from the Jakob Briner Foundation, miniatures from the Briner and Kern collections, paintings by German, Austrian and Swiss masters of the 18th and 19th centuries from the Oskar Reinhart Foundation form the historical prelude, which leads on to French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting with works from the Hahnloser/Jaeggli Foundation collection, among others. This is followed by classical modernism, followed by post-war art with a focus on minimal and post-minimal art as well as Arte Povera. One focus of the permanent expansion of the collection is on contemporary art, which can be experienced in concentrated excerpts.
