Karin Sander
8 September – 18 November 2018 | Beim Stadthaus
Although it is intense at a conceptual level, Karin Sander’s work seems light and playful. The artist was born in Bensberg in 1957 and currently lives in Berlin and Zurich. She critically investigates fundamental categories of art. Accordingly, her so-called Wandstücke [wall pieces], mural surfaces polished to a mirror finish, challenge our traditional understanding of mural painting. This questioning of traditional methods can also be found in the so-called Mailed Paintings, raw canvasses which travel through the globalised art market unprotected and thereby conserve the traces of transportation. Karin Sander’s work has been shown in internationally important institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York or the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart. The exhibition at the Kunst Museum Winterthur mediates a comprehensive insight into Sander’s sensual investigations of art.
