On Paper
Artists' Farewell Gifts
3 December 2017 - 5 August 2018 | Beim Stadthaus
Friends of the Kunstmuseum have taken the initiative to honour the collecting and exhibiting activities of Dieter Schwarz during the last 27 years and asked the artists associated with the house for a gift. 35 artists subsequently donated one or more works on paper to the museum. Among them are international names such as Gerhard Richter, Richard Tuttle, Joel Shapiro, David Rabinowitch, Giuseppe Penone, Richard Deacon and Thomas Schütte, but also Swiss artists such as Heiner Kielholz, Pia Fries and Mario Sala are represented. In addition, more than twenty members of the Künstlergruppe Winterthur, the association of Winterthur artists, presented drawings and prints to the Kunstverein to commemorate the long-time director.
These generous presents will now be presented in the context of the collection for the first time. It is certainly no coincidence that all works are on paper, for the Kunstmuseum Winterthur has held this medium in high esteem during the past three decades – be it in numerous exhibitions or the collection itself.
